house or law school???

no one in my family is particularly keen on my inclination to go to law school. they have their reasons, including my father, though they’re all supportive of me regardless of their own opinions….

during the most recent conversation with my father, we were talking about my plan for law school, costs, work, etc. we were also talking about the tanking economy and falling house prices. toward the end of the conversation, he asked whether i’d rather go to law school or get a house. i hate to make assumptions about such things, but it did kind of sound like he might help pay for one or the other. who knows…. at the time, though, i couldn’t answer the question. honestly and maybe, surprisingly, i’m torn.

i do admit one of the reasons i’m strongly considering a career in law is the notion that such a career would allow me to afford a house here (in waimanalo).  it would also be a career, potentially, that i could really ‘get behind’ and enjoy. don’t get me wrong, there are aspects of my current job that i really enjoy, but i’m not even remotely interested in making it a career. like many law students, i have visions of fighting injustice, fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves, defending civil liberties, the environment, and the constitution. can you make any money doing that stuff?

back to the point at hand…. did my dad offer to help pay for one or the other? i’ve wanted a house here longer than i’ve been planning for law school, but i can’t quite bring myself to pick. if i pick the house, i might not be able to then go to school, though i might be able to get a house later down the road if i choose school. needless to say, i’m torn.

which would you pick (assuming you want to go to law school)?

Law School…..always bet on education…my mom told me often it is one of the few things that can not be taken away from you.

I wish you luck and support you 100% of this goal…who knows who you will meet and the new opportunities you can come across
