hurray!!
today was my last day with the evil, stupid, dastardly insurance agency. as i’ve said previously, the agency i worked for was sold to monarch insurance at the beginning of the year and as bad as the bank was, monarch was SO much worse.
it isn’t necessary to go into details at this point, since i’m moving on. that’s right, it’s time to look forward. starting monday (though i’ll be there for a bit tomorrow), i will be the office manager/coordinator at the headquarters for the democratic party of hawaii. after all these years of tireless volunteering for the party, i will officially be on the payroll. its great and i can’t wait to start.
for better or worse, party hq is like a second home to me and while i was working on the state convention last year, i was probably spending as much time, or more, there than i was in my own home. that will definitely be the case now, but now i’ll be getting paid for it.
there is a chance, though its way too early to be sure, that this job will impact my activist activities. in most instances, i suspect there won’t be a problem as most of the stuff i work on is in line with party principles and the platform. it will, however, hinder my ability to support candidates running for office. as an employee of the party, it wouldn’t be right for me to publicly support and campaign for a democrat running in a primary contest.
what’s more, there is a possibility that this new job will have some impact on me role as co-chair of the progressive democrats of hawaii, which isn’t officially associated with the party…. i’ll just have to play it by ear and do my best to steer clear of impropriety. i don’t think it’s going to be a big problem.
anyway, wish me luck and who knows how things will develop from here….
P.S.
What was HB444?
house bill 444 (house draft 1) is the civil unions bill currently struggling to make its way through the legislature. at the time of this reply, the bill is currently ‘stuck’ in the senate judiciary and government operations (JGO) committee. while it still may be unlikely for it to come out, all hope is not lost. keep your fingers crossed and call your state senator!
